What is the difference between a controller and an ECU reflash?
A Performance Controller is a plug-and-play module that works with the factory ECU to increase performance, without an ECU unlock. An ECU reflash changes the engine calibration directly, giving CarBahn broader control over how the engine delivers power. ECU software requires a bench unlock and a compatible installation method.
Why is the heat exchanger required?
More power puts greater demand on the charge-air cooling system. The CarBahn heat exchanger helps manage intake temperatures and maintain consistent performance. It is required for Stage 2 and included in the Stage 2 power packages shown here.
What does the Factory Matching Warranty do?
It provides separate CarBahn coverage for eligible engine and powertrain repairs under CarBahn’s warranty terms. Eligibility, duration, mileage limits and exclusions apply; purchasing a tune does not automatically include coverage. Stage 2 requires the CarBahn heat exchanger. Software installed through Bootmod3 or MHD is not eligible. Review Factory Matching Warranty details →
Can I upgrade from a controller to software?
Yes. Contact our tuning team to arrange the controller-to-software upgrade and confirm the current trade-up offer. The software installation requires an ECU bench unlock; your dealer can confirm which existing supporting hardware can be reused.
What is a bench unlock, and how much does it cost?
A bench unlock prepares your engine computer (DME) to accept tuning software using a direct connection to the ECU. A participating CarBahn dealer performs the Autotuner unlock locally at installation. The unlock fee and labor are set by the installer and are additional to the prices shown here. Ask your dealer for an installed quote. Controllers do not require an unlock.
Why do I need an upgraded clutch for manual tunes?
Additional torque can exceed the factory clutch’s capacity and cause slipping. An upgraded clutch is required for the manual Stage 2 configurations in this builder. Add the CarBahn clutch kit or confirm you already have an upgraded clutch installed. For Stage 1, speak with your installer about the right clutch for your setup.
