What is the difference between a controller and an ECU reflash?

A Performance Controller is a plug-and-play module that works with the factory ECU to increase performance, without an ECU unlock. An ECU reflash changes the engine calibration directly, giving CarBahn broader control over how the engine delivers power. ECU software requires a compatible installation method; your installer will confirm any DME unlock required for your production date.

Why is the heat exchanger required?

More power puts greater demand on the charge-air cooling system. The CarBahn heat exchanger helps manage intake temperatures and maintain consistent performance. It is required for Stage 2 and included in the Stage 2 power packages shown here.

What does the Factory Matching Warranty do?

It provides separate CarBahn coverage for eligible engine and powertrain repairs under CarBahn’s warranty terms. Eligibility, duration, mileage limits and exclusions apply; purchasing a tune does not automatically include coverage. Stage 2 requires the CarBahn heat exchanger. Can I upgrade from a controller to software?

Yes. Contact our tuning team to arrange the controller-to-software upgrade and confirm the current trade-up offer. Your installer will confirm any required ECU unlock; your dealer can confirm which existing supporting hardware can be reused.

What is a bench unlock, and how much does it cost?

A bench unlock prepares your engine computer (DME) to accept tuning software using a direct connection to the ECU. Your installer will confirm the appropriate unlock method for your specific ECU and production date. The unlock fee and labor are set by the installer and are additional to the prices shown here. Ask your dealer for an installed quote. Controllers do not require an unlock.

What is included with Stage 3, and which models can use it?

Stage 3 is offered for both M8 model-year groups as an ECU Software Power Package. It includes Stage 3 software, MAP sensors, a heat exchanger, high-flow air filters and upgraded intercoolers. There is no Stage 3 controller option.

Does this fit Competition models?

Yes. This builder covers 2020–2025 F91 Convertible, F92 Coupe and F93 Gran Coupe M8, including Competition models. Published power output and gains vary by model, fuel and configuration. View the product’s model-specific dyno data for your vehicle.
