Stage 2 S63 TU4 High Performance Engine: F90 M5, F91, F92, F93 M8

This S63 engine is designed to make for maximum power applications (over 1,000HP) CarBahn has designed a high-performance engine to handle very high outputs by pinning the cam sprocket to the crankshaft. To ensure durability we also machine the block to accommodate a full circle thrust main. In addition, we utilize higher quality racing Carrillo connecting rods, forged CP pistons, cylinder head studs, high performance valve springs, cylinder head porting and lowered compression for increased flow and high boost.

Steve Dinan has been building high performance and racing engines for BMW since 1977, winning 11 racing championships including 3 prototype championships and two 24 Hours of Daytona. The same engine shop that builds the racing engines also builds the street car engines. These talented engineers, machinists, and builders have built hundreds of engines from OEM street rebuilds to full-blown racing engines.

From stock, the S63 engine is not designed for a large increase in boost. CarBahn has designed a high-performance engine to handle very high outputs by utilizing higher quality racing Carrillo connecting rods and forged CP pistons.

The stock engine compression ratio is relatively high due to the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards which push for consistently higher fuel economy in cars and trucks. However, this increased compression limits engine performance with higher boost settings by decreasing the size of the fuel-air charge in the combustion chamber, forcing the ignition timing to retard far below MBT (Mean Best Timing, the theoretical optimal ignition timing). Therefore, the Carbahn Autoworks S63 engine has 0.5 less compression to optimize the engine for the increased boost. In an emissions-legal street car, the lowered compression has the added benefit of reducing catalyst inlet temperatures and improved drive-ability on pump gas.

  • Warranty & Additional Information
Our engines are very strong and can often be very reliable even at power levels above what is recommended. The durability usually depends on the quality and the reliability of the tune and other aftermarket components added to the engine management system.

    • Engines with CarBahn Software Tunes
All engines listed with a stage number are designed to be road car engines and are covered for 2 years, 24,000 miles providing they have a CarBahn tune and there are no other parts on the car that have caused a premature failure.
    • Engines with Another Company's Tune

All engines listed with a stage number are designed to be road car engines and are covered are covered for 2 year, 24,000 miles providing they you stay under our recommended torque limits. Torque limits are indicated on our web site. Warranty does not cover failures from the tune or aftermarket fuel injection components that caused the failure. It is CarBahn full discretion to determine cause of failure. If Torque limit is exceeded the warranty is for materials and workmanship only.

    • Racing Engines
Racing engines are designed to be raced and are covered for materials and workmanship only. Racing engines should be rebuilt periodically based on run time or mileage. Warranty does not cover failures from the tune or aftermarket fuel injection components that caused the failure. It is CarBahn full discretion to determine cause of failure.

Designed to be both stronger and more cost-effective than the BMW OEM factory engine, the CarBahn Stage 2 Engine benefits from Steve Dinan's 46 years of race engine-building expertise. His engines have powered multiple championship-winning cars, including three prototype racing titles and two overall victories at the 24 Hours of Daytona (2011-2013).
