Answers to common questions about installation, upgrades, tuning and warranty coverage.

Do I need an ECU unlock for a Performance Controller?

No. CarBahn Performance Controllers are plug-and-play devices that work with your vehicle's factory ECU without requiring an ECU unlock or software flash. You can install the controller at home or through a professional installer.

Why is a heat exchanger required for Stage 2?

Stage 2 produces additional power and heat, placing greater demands on the charge-air cooling system. The CarBahn Heat Exchanger provides increased cooling capacity to help control intake temperatures and maintain consistent performance.

The required CarBahn Heat Exchanger must be installed to achieve advertised Stage 2 performance and qualify for CarBahn's optional Factory Matching Warranty.

Can I upgrade to ECU reflash software later?

Yes. If you decide to move from a Performance Controller to CarBahn ECU Software, contact our tuning team to arrange the upgrade.

CarBahn offers a $250 controller trade-in credit toward eligible ECU Software purchases. Unlike the controller, ECU Software requires an ECU unlock and a compatible installation process. Your CarBahn dealer can help coordinate the conversion.

Does the warranty cover my powertrain if I install the controller myself?

CarBahn offers an optional Factory Matching Warranty for eligible vehicles and Performance Controller configurations. This provides separate coverage for qualifying powertrain repairs under CarBahn's warranty terms.

Self-installation does not automatically establish or exclude coverage. Your vehicle, installation, required supporting hardware and warranty purchase must satisfy the applicable terms and eligibility requirements.

We recommend confirming your eligibility with our team before installation, particularly if you plan to install the controller yourself.

How do I pair my Performance Controller with the app?

Download the Tuning Pro app and locate the 13-digit serial number on your controller or product cover sheet. Turn on your vehicle's ignition without starting the engine, enable Bluetooth, and disconnect other Bluetooth devices during initial pairing.

Open the app, enter the 13-digit serial number, and use the final six digits as the Bluetooth PIN when prompted. Once connected, select the map appropriate for the fuel in your tank.

What fuel octane levels are supported?

CarBahn Performance Controllers support selectable calibrations for 91, 93 and 100 octane fuel. Choose the appropriate map through the Tuning Pro app based on the fuel currently in your tank.

Higher-octane maps must only be used with the corresponding fuel. Available power output varies by vehicle and selected calibration.

Can I upgrade from Stage 1 to Stage 2 remotely, or do I need a new controller?

You don't need to purchase an entirely new controller. CarBahn supports remote upgrades from Stage 1 to Stage 2 on eligible Performance Controllers, so the existing unit can be updated without removal.

Stage 2 supporting hardware, including the required CarBahn Heat Exchanger, must be installed before operating the upgraded calibration. Contact our tuning team to confirm your configuration and arrange the upgrade.

CarBahn Performance Controller (CPC):

The CPC is a plug and play ECU that increases boost pressure in turbocharged cars to dramatically increase HP and Torque. The unit has selectable maps through a Bluetooth app on your smartphone. You can download these apps for your smartphone through the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

These maps are designed to accommodate different octane fuels for additional increased performance. You can choose between 91, 93, and 100 Octane. As with all CarBahn products, an optional powertrain warranty can be purchased.

If you want to trade your CarBahn Performance Controller in for software in the future, there is a $250 upgrade fee, and if you purchased the warranty, it is transferable to the software at no additional charge!

Emissions Legality:

A note on down pipes (removing the catalyst). We have run back-to-back dyno runs with the cat on and off, and the power gain is much smaller than most people claim, usually around 11hp. We all need to breathe the air. It is difficult to get your car its required emissions test without a catalyst, and it is illegal.
